Hamsi Taverna, Somer Sivrioğlu brings Istanbul's seaside tavern culture to the New Fish Market
Hamsi Taverna is the seafood-led venue from celebrity Turkish chef Somer Sivrioğlu, now open at the New Sydney Fish Market. Inspired by Istanbul's waterfront taverns, it brings the same spirit behind hatted Maydanoz and beloved Anason to a marine-toned, wood-fired space designed for long lunches and DJ-soundtracked late nights by the water.
The menu centres on seafood crudo, cured fish and flame-grilled sharing dishes, with Hamsi originals alongside reimagined favourites from Sivrioğlu's iconic Efendy. Alkot Studio has designed the space to feel like a natural extension of the waterfront, with warm timber and marine tones that catch the golden hour light perfectly before the DJs take over. It shifts from leisurely afternoon dining to a vibrant evening venue without missing a beat, and the New Sydney Fish Market location gives it one of the best settings in the city.
