The Hideaway Bondi Junction, in the eastern suburbs, has a new after-dark destination
The Hideaway Bondi Junction is the underground restaurant and cocktail bar the eastern suburbs have been waiting for. Accessed via a dual-entry staircase beneath Oxford Street, the subterranean space draws on New York’s basement dining culture, with a kitchen led by a chef from two-hatted Bentley, shifting energy from dinner through to late-night drinks and live music.
The kitchen centres on quality produce and serious technique. The dry-aged pork chop, crumbed in its own crackling and cooked in clarified butter, is the one to order, alongside buttermilk-fried chicken with Oscietra caviar and a beef burger built around smoked beef-fat onion. The caviar experience with Champagne pairings and a Caviar Martini brings the theatre. The cocktail list runs from the Hideaway Martini to the Spring at the Oxford, while a dedicated wine cellar covers Australian, NZ and international producers. Live music Thursday to Saturday keeps the room going.
