Nestled in the heart of Alexandria's slowly evolving light-industrial streets you'll find Mecca Coffee Alexandria. Housed in a converted warehouse space, this unassuming spot is one of the most welcoming neighbourhood cafes in the area (and also one of Sydney's best spots to score a delicious coffee). Out the back, you'll hear the roastery team working away at roasting beans while the front of the space boasts a spacious cafe. Swing by for delicious seasonal eats, perfectly brewed coffee and even nab a bag of retail beans to take home.

This cafe has a few chains around Sydney CBD, and for good reason, they do a fantastic iced matcha latte. Renowned for its dark, minimalist style that blends Scandinavian and Japanese aesthetics, they operate a sit-down cafe in Darling Square and takeaway stores throughout the city. The menu offers a fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian influences, including pork katsu burgers, bento boxes, and soufflé pancakes. However, they are mostly known for their matcha, celebrated for its smooth texture and rich flavour profile. It is crafted using premium Uji matcha—sourced from Japan's renowned Uji region. The latte is a vibrant green with the smoothest consistency. Their Iced Matcha Latte is my personal favourite in Sydney, which will amaze your tastebuds!

Speaking of big coffee players, caffeine connoisseurs will likely be well-acquainted with Surry Hills' iconic Paramount Coffee Project. Located in the bustling Paramount House building (home to a luxe new boutique hotel and even a premium rooftop gym), PCP Sydney is a destination for coffee lovers. On the bar, you'll find a rotating selection of beans from roasteries locally and abroad. Plus, the floor staff and baristas are always on-hand to help you find the perfect coffee for your palette.

This bustling, streetside cafe has been trending online and for good reason. In 2022 they were acclaimed Time Out Sydney Café Of The Year, and sell their housemade coffee blends online. Although they are known for their coffee, their Yuzu Matcha Tonic has caught our attention. They use their own matcha powder, which is organic and derived from shade-grown tea leaves grown in Japan. It has a lively and refreshing taste—citrusy, slightly bitter, and earthy with an overall balance that makes it the perfect drink for sipping on a warm day.

Marrickville might be best known for its stellar selection of craft breweries, but the suburb is quickly solidifying its place as a must-see coffee destination. And one of our favourite spots to visit has to be ONA Coffee. Coming to Marrickville from the nation's capital, this specialty coffee bar is first-and-foremost a coffee spot. With a bar menu of everything from milk-based cups to black and filtered brews, pull up a chair at the bar and get ready to sip something new and expand your palette at this coffee shop.

There's nothing better than a coffee and croissant to start your day. And at Potts Point's Primary Coffee Roasters, that's exactly what you'll find. This spot keeps its offering simple, with coffee and only a small selection of Penny Fours' pastries available. But, this curated menu is executed with perfection. A favourite among Potts Point locals looking for a perfectly brewed coffee on their way to the office, Primary Coffee Roasters is a no-frills space that doesn't complicate the brewing process.

Skittle Lane is a must-know for Christmas morning coffee in the city. Tucked away in a buzzing laneway, it pairs old-world charm with serious coffee credentials. The service runs smoothly, even when the line moves fast. Most importantly, Skittle Lane will stay open on Christmas, so you can count on a quality brew to kick-start the day.

Unlike most coffee shops, you won't find a food menu at Artificer. This Bourke Street favourite is proudly coffee only, but they won't mind if you bring a bag of Bourke Street Bakery's croissants inside (as long as you share the pastry goods with the baristas). These guys roast and brew all their own coffee, making sure each cup is as delicious as possible. Be warned, this coffee bar attracts serious crowds on the weekends so seats can be hard to come by. But we believe this spot is definitely worth the wait.

Sample is another ethical Sydney coffee roaster to add to your rotation. They have scored a B Corp certification which highlights their efforts to operate to high social and environmental standards. But inside this small shop front, you'll find a team of passionate baristas, roasters and coffee lovers brewing some of Sydney's best coffee. In fact, the team from Coffee Alchemy has even scored a bunch of top-notch accolades including taking out the Australian Barista Champion title, NSW Championship titles and more. Clearly, this is one coffee shop that really knows what they are doing.

Hidden just behind Central Park Mall, Brews Brothers might be one of Sydney's most underrated study spots. This cosy café offers more than just good coffee. It's a quiet, character-filled haven for students, writers, and anyone craving a peaceful reset. The space blends vintage charm with thoughtful design, with wooden tables, hanging lights, and a bookshelf stacked with art and history. Almond lattes, gooey cinnamon swirls, and genuinely kind staff seal the deal. Whether you're diving into deep work or dodging the rain, Brews Brothers delivers calm in the heart of the city.

Tessuto, the latest venture from the owners of Secolo, brings a vibrant Italian trattoria to York Street. With timber panelling and terrazzo floors, it's the perfect spot for a quick espresso or a leisurely meal. Try the seared tuna with asparagus, quinoa, and roasted eggplant for a salad you'll end up dreaming about. For a fan favourite, try the Fusilli with Pesto alla Ligure—classic basil pesto with toasted pine nuts, green beans and potato. Pair it with a tiramisu iced latte or a Limoncello spritz for the full experience.
