Kyu by Kyue Darlinghurst, Osaka comfort food, lands on the former Mayflower site
Kyu by Kyue Darlinghurst is the Osaka-inspired kushi and katsu bar that has taken over the former Mayflower site in Darlinghurst, from the family behind Kyue Japanese in Willoughby. The menu centres on Japanese comfort food done with care, from premium tonkatsu and wagyu katsu to Osaka-style kushikatsu and niku udon.
This is a family-owned venue with a clear point of view. Lyn and Andrew Park spent months refining the concept before opening, drawing on their years running Kyue Japanese in Willoughby to shape something more focused. The menu hits the comfort food notes that Osaka does best: crisp kushikatsu skewers, wagyu don, signature wagyu katsu and a niku udon that earns its place as a signature dish. The space is cosy and neighbourhood-friendly, designed to feel like a nostalgic Japanese dining experience rather than a destination restaurant.
